The implantable loop recorder is a small device that is implanted under the skin to allow for long term monitoring of the heart. The device is placed by making a small slit in the mid-left location of the chest. It is a straight forward outpatient procedure that is currently performed in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. The procedure typically takes 30 minutes to perform, and only very light sedation is administered.
